Merdeka Square

This is a privatisation project that was put together by Michael Low, Group Managing Director of AM-EL Group. The project consists of an historic square that was to be returned to the Federal Government. Below the field is a 5-acre commercial space and car park in which ownership was given to AM-EL Group for 42 years. However the Group cashed in and sold its interest to General Lumber Berhad, a public-listed company after completing the project in the year 1989.

The Square boasts of the country's tallest free standing flag pole. Situated in front of the Supreme and High Court Buidling, the Merdeka Square is often used to host major national events, inculding the Merdeka Day National Parade. As the turnkey developer and contractor, Merdeka Square is AM-EL Group's landmark project.
